Dear NELG Member,
This months lecture is on the 5th march at 8pm. Its on opthalmology for GPs. You are asked to submit any queries in advance to Alan Whitmore who is a opthalmologist current finishing his GP training. He has also asked that attendees bring their opthalmoscopes for some practical tips !!
Next months talk (2april) will be on management of hyperlipidaemia (FAT guidelines) -Jane Skinner. Her talks her highly rates and include problems and cases.
PLEASE NOTE THE VENUE FOR THIS PROGRAMME WILL BE CHANGING IN JULY- WATCH THIS SPACE.
Many of you have sent in SAEs for this booklets and the required 50P- and I hope you have all received it. Feedback on this tool would be well received. Thanks to those who have sent thoughtful cards and letters of appreciation with their requests- this is much appreciated.
The current batch has run out but if there is continuing interest I can get another print run done.
On the subject of appraisal-
its matching time of year again- to get maximal choice of appraisers now is the time to make your choice. This is managed differently by different PCTs so please contact your local appraisal manager.
Also North of Tyne NHS has recently published its minimum evidence dataset for appraisal (emailed to all performers). This is also available through the deanery website.
The GPC/BMA has just published guidance on in house performance review for salaried GPs. This is a tool for assisting annual discussion between the salaried GP and the employer on performance, career development, achivement of goals and contractual matters including pay review. For further info have a look at the BMA website under sessionalGPs.
Recently I send out a survey asking for people's experiences of setting up and working within their self diercted learning groups. THis was in order to share good practice and help support the creation of further groups. Sadly very few have responded. THis is a key area of professional practice specially for sessional GPs for whom isolation is a major issue. If you are in agroup I would be interested to know :
what has worked well
what further support you would like
and what you would suggest to people trying to start their own new group.
Your responses will be kept confidential and anonymous.
I hope later this year to organise a repeat of last years successful launch event for SDLGs.
