Professional Development for Sessional GPs 17th May

This event was well attended and included well developed workshops on key skills (negotiation skills, time management, demand management, how to give effective feedback and team roles/conflict management) as well as an update on appraisal an revalidation. (Both these talks can be found on the nelg website under “lecture handouts”).

Educational events:

Current listings about these can be found on the nelg website www.nelg.org.uk under education and then “events”. To receive automatic notification of these (rather than monthly you may wish to consider joining the NELG; membership is £10).

Retainer Scheme

Funding for this scheme remains unchanged by the new GMS contract or other funding changes and there are currently a number of practices interested in taking on doctors and doctors looking for placements.

Appraisal- arrangements North of Tyne

A new management structure for North of Tyne is being put in place which will affect GPs on the performers lists for Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland. Appraisal will be delivered by a combined pool of appraisers from all the 3 PCTS, and there will in time be a single North of Tyne Appraisal structure involving the GP tutors for the 3 areas and Dr Di Jelley. At management level the contacts will be Susan Wade and Helen Lumley with Jaqcui Douglas providing the administrative support. We are in a transition period however some appraisees have begun to choose appraisers via their pre-existing PCT contacts and these choices will be honoured. Further information will be available in due course. Form4s should be submitted in the normal way until further notice of new arrangements.

NATIONAL ELECTIONS FOR SESSIONAL SUB COMMITTEE OF GENERAL PRACTITIONERS COMMITTEE

I am currently deputy chair of this national committee. IN this role I have contributed substantially to work on national contracts, job planning, in house performance review, and collaborative working on the implications of revalidation for locum Gps.

Ballot papers are now being sent out and I would value your support in voting for me.

If you didnt get a ballot paper and wish to receive one you can email vwhite@bma.org.uk and ask to be sent one- YOU DONT HAVE TO BE A BMA MEMBER TO HAVE A VOTE.

Many thanks
