This event is about new insights into yourself and others, your professional efficacy and “emotional intelligence”. It offers skills based workshops aimed at helping you develop your professional role, as well as opportunities for networking with other sessional GPs.
In addition it includes important updates on appraisal and revalidation.
Time management, Facilitated by Dr Steve Blades, GP and executive Coach. (AM&PM)
This workshop will use of mixture of presentation and small group exercises to enable participants to : Learn about principles of time management; Improve their work-life balance; Identify their roles in life and set practical personal goals; Recognise how they can be more efficient; Reduce procrastination; Identify what they can delegate and how to do it; Spot what they can dump.
Effective Negotiation - facilitated by Jane Chalmers, GP and course organiser for NVTS, Blue Sky. (am)
This session will enable participants to explore the attributes of effective negotiation. Practical exercises will provide group members with the opportunity to rehearse the skills of win-win scenarios.
Team Roles and conflict management, Helen Frankenberg. (pm) What is your role in a team? What part do you tend to play ? How does this help working together and resolving conflict ?
Giving effective feedback, facilitated by John Spencer, Prof of General Practice Education (am)
This skill is essential in many contexts: when supervising learners, when discussing clinical performance with colleagues and when participating in evaluative discussions about subjects in which there is a shared interest. The 2 hour workshop will help attendees apply some simple concepts in
practical exercises.
Managing Demand, Dow Smith (pm)
Demands (personal and professional) are often seen as ever-increasing and potentially over-whelming - but they don't have to be. This workshop looks at ways of empowering you to take control. How? By looking at underlying issues, and developing 'tools for your toolbox'. Initial focus will be on shared areas of clinical demand with an opportunity to look at personal demands after this: “how to say no”, “giving better explanations”, “dealing with dependent patients”.
