PROGRAMME
The day will commence at 8.45am with coffee and registration and the programme will run from 9.15am until approximately 1.00 pm.
The content of the programme may vary but will cover national, regional and PCT cervical screening issues.
The Cervical Screening Update is half a day’s training. Refreshments will be provided mid morning. Please note, there will be no lunch.
A Certificate of Attendance will be issued at the end of the day.

As you are aware Working Together to Safeguard Children (2010) and the Intercollegiate Document (2010) advise that GPs should have attained Level 3 competency in safeguarding children
A full day course has been developed to:
• provide a clinically focussed update on the signs of child abuse and neglect; looking at:
• Bruising
• Oral Injuries
• Bites
• Burns/Scalds
• Sexual Abuse
• Emotional Abuse
• Neglect
• Domestic Abuse
• participate in reviewing case studies to support learning
• ensure understanding of the referral process and thresholds
• provide a legislative update
• provide an update on MARAC (multi-agency risk assessment conferences), MAPPA (multi-agency public protection arrangements) and CAF (Common Assessment Framework)
• ensure learning is shared from Serious Case Reviews
The session will be facilitated by Dr Helen Palmer(Consultant Paediatrician/ Designated Dr) and Maggie Lilburn (Designated Nurse) and fully supported by
Drs Varun Kaura and Annil Doshi ( Gateshead GP Tutors)

Event Description:
An opportunity for continued medical education, for paediatricians of all grades, as well as allied medical professionals.
Whether you are a nurse with a special interest, contemplating paediatrics as a career (foundation), a generalist, have a special interest in a particular field or are fast approaching FP (final phase) status, this programme is an opportunity to update your knowledge, skills and learn what is new in child health and paediatrics.
Programme involvement is welcome e.g. personal experience, local audits, case presentations. Meet and discuss clinical practice, service delivery and care pathways with the secondary and tertiary level paediatricians in the Northern Region.

PARKING AT BACK (NEAREST)
The best way to access it is to drive round the back of the hospital to the unmissable multi-storey car park, where you will easily find space on the ground or 1st floor (remember to bring change for parking charges). The entrance to the education centre is 2 minutes walks (yes really) from this car park, and clearly sign posted. Enter the Education Centre and go through the double doors immediately in front of you the lecture theatres are on the right.
PARKING AT FRONT (MUCH FURTHER)
If you choose to park at the front of the hospital, enter the hospital building through the main hospital entrance then head straight up the main corridor, past the shop until you get to the T-Junction, and turn left. Use either the stairs on the right, or the lift on the left, and go down to Level 1. Once you’re at Level 1, if you have used the stairs turn right. If you have used the lift turn left. Walk a short way along the corridor following signs for education centre – enter through double door and lecture theatres are on the right.

We would like to invite you to the CHER day on Wednesday 7 March 2012.
We have listened to delegate feedback from the last few years and are making the following structural change to CHER: Moving from full day to half day speciality CHER meetings, dedicated to general paediatricians (9:15-13:45). These half days will be charged at £60.00 for advance booking and £70.00 on the day.
The study days are conducted on a monthly basis by the School of Paediatrics. This is an excellent provision for both established healthcare professionals and also trainees. Attendance counts toward CPD points and the pricing structure of the days compares very favourably when compared with other Paediatric training days run nationwide.
Early registration is encouraged as places are limited, a registration form is attached and must be completed and returned along with your cheque in advance made payable to “Newcastle Hospitals Trust”.
