<< Information for Practice Managers
Good Practice When Hiring a Locum
- Adhering to agreed workload (as booked) with adequate allowance made for refugees, longer appointments for gynae exams etc. Where you would like the locum to carry additional work over and above their agreed terms please check with them first that they are happy to do this (they may be unable to extend their session beyond the agreed lenght due to prior commitments or may prefer to stick to certain workloads to ensure they can work to a high standard).
- Confirming the booking in writing promptly after a telephone call.
- adequately stocked rooms - with all forms, equipment, soap (!)- and locum induction packs
- prompt payment of fees on the same day or at the latest the last worked day of each week
- comprehensive induction file/folder ( see our recommended one)
- prompt signature of pension forms 6. friendly attitude of practice manager, staff and doctors- helpful at directing to visits and offering tea/coffee
- efficient settling in/induction procedure (e.g. password for computer etc)
- flexibility regarding surgery start times and booking intervals
- passing on information regarding educational events (as locums continue to find it difficult to get information on these)
