About NELG

The NELG is a support group for sessional GPs in the North East which has been running for over 10 years. Its has a wide variety of general practitioners, from recently qualified to recently retired. Members include locums, retainers, Flexible Career Scheme doctors, salaried GPs, academics, GP who teach, etc.

The group works locally with the post-graduate institute, local PCTs and LMCs. It also has links with the national Sessional GPs subcommittee of the GPC and the National Association of Sessional GPs.

The group supports its members in a variety of ways: by improving access to education and support for appraisal, reducing isolation and promoting peer support, facilitating finding work, social events, monthly meetings and a monthly minutes/newsletter after each meeting. The NELG publishes a monthly list of those members who are available for work.

The group is funded by membership fees.
